Body sculpting refers to non-surgical procedures that contour the body by reducing localised fat deposits and tightening overlying skin — without liposuction or surgery. At Epical HealthMed in Mission, TX, we use energy-based and injection-based technologies to target stubborn pockets of fat on the abdomen, flanks, thighs, arms, and submental area that resist diet and exercise.

Quick answers

Is body sculpting the...

Is body sculpting the same as weight loss? No. Body sculpting removes or destroys localised fat cells in targeted areas. It is not a weight-loss treatment and is most effective for patients near their goal weight with specific stubborn pockets.

How does fat reduction...

How does fat reduction work without surgery? Cryolipolysis freezes fat cells (which then die and are cleared by the body), radiofrequency heating destroys fat while tightening skin, and deoxycholic acid injections dissolve submental fat.

Is the fat removal...

Is the fat removal permanent? The destroyed fat cells are permanently removed. However, remaining fat cells can still expand with weight gain, so maintaining results requires weight stability.

Who is an ideal...

Who is an ideal candidate? Adults within 10-15 kg of their goal weight with identifiable, pinchable fat pockets that are diet-resistant. Not suitable as a primary obesity treatment.

Who can benefit from body sculpting?

Body sculpting is appropriate for patients who are at or near their goal weight but have persistent localised fat deposits that do not respond proportionately to diet and exercise. These include the submental “double chin,” flanks (“love handles”), lower abdomen, inner/outer thighs, and upper arms.

It is not a treatment for generalised obesity. Patients with significant excess skin (from major weight loss) may require surgical consultation alongside body contouring for optimal results.

What to expect from results

Cryolipolysis (fat freezing)

controlled cooling of fat tissue to -11°C causes selective apoptosis (programmed death) of fat cells, which are then cleared by the lymphatic system over 4-12 weeks. 20-25% fat reduction per session

Radiofrequency fat reduction

focused RF energy heats and destroys fat cells at controlled depths while simultaneously tightening the overlying skin — addressing both fat and laxity

High-intensity focused electromagnetic (HIFEM)...

High-intensity focused electromagnetic (HIFEM) therapy: induces powerful involuntary muscle contractions equivalent to thousands of sit-ups or squats per session — builds muscle while reducing fat

Deoxycholic acid (Kybella®/Belkyra®)

injectable that permanently destroys fat cells in the submental (double chin) area. 2-4 sessions spaced 6 weeks apart

Fat-dissolving injections (phosphatidylcholine/deoxycholate): targeted...

Fat-dissolving injections (phosphatidylcholine/deoxycholate): targeted injection to reduce small, localised fat pockets on the body

What to expect from results

Results from cryolipolysis develop over 4-12 weeks as destroyed fat cells are gradually cleared by the body. RF fat reduction is visible within 4-8 weeks. Multiple sessions are needed for optimal contouring. Most patients see 20-30% reduction in localised fat thickness per treated area over a full treatment series.

Combining sculpting with weight loss efforts

Body sculpting produces its best results when patients maintain a stable weight. We recommend completing any active weight loss program before body sculpting, as significant weight gain after treatment can expand remaining fat cells and diminish results. Resistance training after treatment helps maximise the body composition improvement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Initial suction and intense cold are uncomfortable for the first 5-10 minutes. After that the area becomes numb and most patients relax, read, or use their phones during the treatment.

Most target areas require 1-3 sessions for meaningful contouring. Some patients are satisfied after a single session; others prefer more dramatic results over multiple treatments.

Both are effective for submental fat. Kybella requires multiple injections per session and 2-4 sessions total; cryolipolysis requires fewer sessions but needs a device that fits the chin contour. Your clinician will recommend based on your anatomy.

Yes — this is often recommended, especially for areas with both fat excess and mild skin laxity. RF-based devices treat both simultaneously. HIFEM strengthens the underlying muscle for better overall contour.

The destroyed fat cells are permanently removed. If weight is maintained, results are long-lasting. Significant weight gain can enlarge remaining fat cells and reduce the visible effect.

No. All aesthetic body sculpting treatments are elective and not covered by insurance.

Standard fat-reduction techniques do not tighten skin. RF-based body sculpting (combining fat reduction and skin tightening) addresses both. Patients with significant skin excess may need surgical consultation.

Most body sculpting treatments are appropriate for adults 18+. We evaluate each patient individually and ensure expectations are realistic before proceeding.
