Last updated: January 26, 2026
Defender is Epical HealthMed’s immunity-focused IV infusion, formulated to strengthen the body’s natural defences with high-dose vitamin C, zinc, selenium, and a targeted B-complex blend. Designed for patients looking to proactively support immune resilience—whether before travel, during cold and flu season, or when feeling rundown—Defender delivers immune-critical nutrients at concentrations that oral supplementation cannot reliably achieve.
Quick answers
What is Defender for?...
What is Defender for? Proactive immune support and resilience—ideal before travel, during high-exposure periods, or at the first sign of feeling rundown.
How is it different...
How is it different from a Cold & Flu drip? Defender is preventive immune support; Cold & Flu is targeted treatment when you're already sick. Defender uses lower-dose vitamin C and more zinc/selenium for general immune priming.
How often should I...
How often should I get it? Monthly for general immune maintenance; before travel or high-exposure events; or at the first sign of fatigue or early symptoms.
How long is the session? 30–45 minutes.
The science behind high-dose IV vitamin C and immunity
Oral vitamin C is limited by bowel tolerance—typically 1–2g per day before causing diarrhoea. IV delivery bypasses this, achieving plasma concentrations 25–50 times higher than oral doses can produce. At these concentrations, vitamin C functions not just as an antioxidant but as a pro-oxidant in a targeted way, supporting phagocyte activity and directly inhibiting viral replication in some viral infections. Human clinical data supports IV vitamin C as an adjunct in reducing severity and duration of upper respiratory infections.
Best timing for Defender
- Before travel: airports and aircraft are high-exposure environments—a Defender session 24 hours before departure primes your immune system
- Seasonal transition: the weeks when temperature drops and people congregate indoors is when respiratory viruses surge
- Post-illness: immune depletion following an infection increases vulnerability to secondary illness; Defender helps restore immune reserves
- Periods of sleep deprivation or high stress: both acutely suppress immune function; Defender mitigates this window of vulnerability

What to expect at Epical HealthMed
Vitamin C (7.5–15g)
stimulates white blood cell production and activity, supports epithelial barrier function, and acts as a potent antioxidant that reduces the oxidative burden on immune cells during activation
Zinc
essential for thymic T-cell maturation and natural killer (NK) cell function; even mild zinc deficiency significantly impairs lymphocyte proliferation and antibody production
Selenium
a cofactor for glutathione peroxidase—the enzyme that protects immune cells from oxidative self-damage during an active immune response
B-Complex (B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B12)
B6 in particular is essential for lymphocyte and antibody production; B12 affects NK cell count; all B vitamins support the energy demands of a mounting immune response
Contraindications and safety
High-dose IV vitamin C is contraindicated in patients with G6PD deficiency (a red blood cell enzyme defect) because it can trigger haemolytic anaemia. Patients with kidney disease should be evaluated individually, as high-dose vitamin C increases oxalate production that the kidneys must filter. These conditions are screened during intake.
Immunity tagging, notes, and repeat-booking support
Immunity pages are more useful when patients can see the difference between prevention, recovery support, and higher-intensity care without having to guess.
Educational content only. This page does not replace individualized medical advice. Always consult your clinician for diagnosis and treatment decisions.
- Immunity booster categorization: separate prevention, general wellness, and active-symptom support clearly on the page
- Health condition tagging: highlight tags such as travel prep, seasonal support, cold and flu recovery, or high-stress periods
- Doctor notes and recommendations: reserve space for clinician guidance on timing, fit, and precautions
- Repeat booking option: make it easy for patients to schedule recurring immune-support visits when clinically appropriate

Frequently Asked Questions
Can Defender prevent me from getting sick?
No IV therapy can guarantee prevention of infection—that depends on immune competency, exposure, and pathogen virulence. However, Defender ensures your immune system has optimal levels of all key nutrients at the time of potential exposure, reducing the likelihood of infection taking hold and shortening duration and severity if it does.
Is high-dose vitamin C safe?
Yes, when administered IV under clinical supervision and after G6PD screening. The vitamin C we administer is pharmaceutical-grade and given at rates proven safe in clinical research. The only patients excluded are those with G6PD deficiency or severe kidney disease.
Should I get Defender even if I take vitamin C and zinc supplements orally?
Oral supplements maintain baseline levels. IV Defender delivers concentrations significantly above what oral supplementation can achieve—activating immune pathways that require higher thresholds to respond. Think of oral supplements as daily maintenance and IV infusions as strategic immune priming.
Can I get Defender while I already have a cold?
If you already have active symptoms, the Cold & Flu drip is more appropriate—it uses higher-dose vitamin C and includes anti-inflammatory and anti-nausea support. Defender is most effective as a preventive or at the very earliest onset of symptoms.
How does zinc in an IV differ from oral zinc?
Oral zinc absorption is highly variable—it competes with copper, iron, and phytates in food, reducing bioavailability to 20–40%. IV zinc achieves rapid, complete delivery to tissues including the lymphoid organs where T-cell maturation occurs, providing a more reliable and immediate immune effect.
Does Defender help with seasonal allergies?
Vitamin C has mild antihistamine properties and reduces the oxidative load from allergic inflammation. While not a primary allergy treatment, many patients report reduced symptom severity during allergy season when using monthly Defender infusions alongside their regular allergy management.
Is Defender appropriate for elderly patients?
Yes. Immune function naturally declines with age (immunosenescence), and micronutrient deficiencies—particularly zinc and B12—are common in older adults. Defender is well tolerated and particularly beneficial for elderly patients who want to maintain immune resilience.
Can children receive Defender?
IV therapy for children requires individual evaluation, parental consent, and appropriate weight-based dosing. We do not offer routine IV drip services for paediatric patients. Please consult your child’s paediatrician and contact us for case-by-case evaluation.
