Detox & Complexion IV Drip | Epical HealthMed

Medically reviewed by Dr. Carlos A. Ramirez, MD, MBA, FAAFP, BCEM, IFM-C, FMCP-M (Epical HealthMed)

Epical HealthMed’s Detox & Complexion IV drip supports the body’s natural detoxification pathways—primarily the liver and kidneys—while delivering skin-brightening nutrients that clear the complexion from the inside. Combining high-dose glutathione, vitamin C, NAC (N-acetyl cysteine), B vitamins, and selenium, this infusion helps the liver process and eliminate toxins, heavy metals, and hormonal metabolites that, when accumulated, manifest as dull skin, acne, fatigue, and compromised digestion.

Quick answers

What does "detox" mean...

What does "detox" mean clinically? Clinical detox means supporting the liver's Phase I and Phase II enzymatic pathways that neutralise and excrete toxins, medication metabolites, hormones, and environmental chemicals. It is not a colon cleanse or a juice fast.

Will this clear my...

Will this clear my skin? Many patients notice improved skin clarity and reduced breakouts after a series of sessions, as liver detox burden reduction and glutathione's melanin effects both contribute to clearer, brighter skin.

How many sessions are...

How many sessions are needed? For noticeable skin and systemic effects: 4–6 sessions over 4–6 weeks. Monthly maintenance thereafter.

Is it suitable for...

Is it suitable for people who drink alcohol regularly? Yes—in fact, regular alcohol consumption increases liver detox burden and glutathione depletion, making this drip particularly beneficial for social drinkers.

How liver detox actually works

The liver processes everything absorbed from the gut and everything circulating in the blood. Phase I detox (cytochrome P450 enzymes) converts toxins into intermediate compounds. Phase II detox (conjugation reactions) attaches water-soluble molecules to these intermediates so they can be excreted in bile or urine. Both phases require cofactors—B vitamins, glutathione, amino acids, selenium—that are rapidly depleted by high toxic load, poor diet, alcohol consumption, and chronic stress.

What to expect at Epical HealthMed

Glutathione (1200–2400mg)

the primary Phase II conjugation molecule—replenishing it directly increases liver capacity to neutralise and export toxins, heavy metals, and drug metabolites

N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC)

the precursor to glutathione synthesis; stimulates the liver's own production of glutathione and directly protects liver cells from oxidative damage

Vitamin C (10–15g)

protects hepatocytes (liver cells) from oxidative damage during Phase I metabolism and regenerates oxidised glutathione back to its active form

Selenium

cofactor for glutathione peroxidase and thioredoxin reductase—both essential for antioxidant protection during high-volume detox activity

B-Complex + B12

B2 and B3 are direct cofactors for Phase I CYP450 enzymes; B12 and folate support Phase II methylation, one of the most important detox conjugation pathways

Skin complexion effects

Glutathione and vitamin C work together to inhibit tyrosinase and reduce melanin deposition, producing a skin-brightening effect alongside the detox benefits. Patients undergoing a Detox & Complexion series typically report improved skin tone, reduced hormonal breakouts, and a healthier, more luminous complexion—effects driven by both reduced liver burden and direct antioxidant action in the skin.

Frequently Asked Questions

The liver is the body’s primary detox organ and functions continuously. However, a highly processed diet, alcohol, medications, environmental toxins, and chronic stress can exceed the liver’s processing capacity and deplete its enzymatic cofactors. IV therapy replenishes these cofactors—it does not replace liver function, it optimises it.

Yes. Medications are processed by the same Phase I/II liver pathways as environmental toxins. Long-term use of certain medications (antibiotics, NSAIDs, hormonal contraceptives, statins, acetaminophen) can increase hepatic oxidative stress. The Detox & Complexion drip replenishes glutathione and cofactors depleted by this processing load.

Hormonal acne is partly driven by elevated androgens and impaired oestrogen metabolism. The liver is responsible for oestrogen conjugation and excretion—when this pathway is compromised, oestrogen and androgen metabolites recirculate, contributing to sebum excess and acne. Supporting Phase II methylation (B12, folate) and glutathione conjugation can reduce hormonal acne by improving steroid hormone clearance.

Yes. NAC has been used intravenously in hospitals for decades as the antidote to acetaminophen (Tylenol) overdose—demonstrating its safety profile at high doses. At the lower therapeutic doses used in wellness infusions, NAC is extremely well tolerated. Rare side effects include mild nausea during rapid infusion, managed by slowing the rate.

Some patients notice skin luminosity improvement within 48–72 hours of the first session. More significant complexion changes—reduced breakouts, more even skin tone—typically develop over a series of 4–6 sessions as liver detox capacity improves and glutathione levels normalise throughout the body’s tissues.

Absolutely. During elimination diets, the liver metabolises dietary changes and gut-derived toxins more actively. Detox & Complexion infusions provide the cofactors needed to support this process and are a common complement to functional medicine gut healing protocols.

Glutathione is the primary cellular binding agent for heavy metals (mercury, arsenic, cadmium, lead), facilitating their export via Phase II conjugation. While our Detox & Complexion drip is not a formal heavy metal chelation protocol (which requires higher doses and closer monitoring), it supports background heavy metal excretion as part of ongoing cellular detox processes.

Most patients feel a sense of calm and mild relaxation during the infusion—attributed to magnesium and glutathione’s effects on cellular stress. Some notice a faint sulphur-like smell briefly during NAC infusion, which is normal and harmless. The skin-brightening and fatigue-reducing effects emerge over the 24–72 hours following the session as liver and cellular processes complete.
